Companionship at Home in South Manchester & Cheshire

Good company changes everything. Our companions visit at the times that suit you, share the things you enjoy and become a trusted, familiar face in your week.

Companionship that feels like friendship

Loneliness is not just unpleasant; the NHS and charities such as Age UK recognise that it affects sleep, mood, appetite and physical health. Many of the people we support are independent and capable, but have lost a partner, see family less often than they would like, or have stopped driving. A regular visit from someone they look forward to seeing can restore routine, confidence and a sense of fun.

We match every client with a companion on personality, interests and background, not just availability. If you love cricket, the crossword, gardening or classical music, we look for someone who shares it. The same companion visits each time, with a named back-up you have already met, so there is never a stream of strangers through the door.

What a visit can include

  • Conversation over coffee, reminiscing and sharing news
  • Hobbies: cards, puzzles, reading aloud, crafts, music
  • Walks in the park, garden or along the canal
  • Help writing letters, cards and emails, or video calling family
  • Light meal preparation and sitting down to eat together
  • Trips to the shops, library, hairdresser or coffee shop
  • Reminders about appointments and daily plans
  • A quick tidy, laundry or changing the bed linen

How often and how long?

Most clients start with two or three visits a week of two to four hours. Some prefer a daily lunchtime visit; others want a longer weekly outing. You can change the pattern at any time, and we can step up to live-in companionship if you would like someone at home overnight.

Keeping the family informed

Many enquiries come from sons and daughters who live some distance away or work long hours. With the client’s agreement, we send a short note after each visit so you know how your parent is, what they enjoyed and anything that might need attention, such as a household repair or a change in mood worth mentioning to their GP.

About our service: Livingsupported provides non-regulated companionship, home help and lifestyle support. We do not provide personal care (such as help with washing, dressing, toileting or giving medication), nursing or medical care, and we are not registered with the Care Quality Commission. If personal or clinical care is needed, we will help you find a registered provider and can work alongside them.

Frequently asked questions

What is companionship care?

Companionship is social and practical support at home: conversation, hobbies, outings, light housekeeping and help with day-to-day plans. It does not include personal care such as washing, dressing or giving medication.

Who is companionship suitable for?

It suits older adults and others who live independently but would benefit from regular company, help around the house or someone to go out with. It is also popular as a first step for families who are not yet sure what support is needed.

Will it be the same companion each time?

Yes. Continuity is central to how we work. You will have a main companion and a named back-up who you meet beforehand.

How quickly can visits start?

After a free, no-obligation home visit, we can usually begin within a week, and sooner where possible.
